Core 90 - Component Area Option (6 hours or fewer; may depend on major requirements)

Sports and Exercise Sciences Major Requirements


Exercise Science Track


(Major Code: 117)

This track prepares the major for employment in a variety of sport performance and rehabilitative settings. Additionally, this track, through appropriate use of electives, provides for preparation for graduate programs in exercise science, allied health or other related areas.

Major-Specific University Core Requirements


**IMPORTANT: The following courses are required for their specific Core areas instead of the courses listed above in the general University Core Curriculum.**

Core 20 - Mathematics (3 hours)

Fourth hour from MATH 2412  or MATH 2413  (if taken) will count toward Component Area Option (Core 90).

Core 30 - Life and Physical Sciences (6 hours)

Lab hours will count toward Component Area Option (Core 90).

Core 80 - Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 hours)

Core 90 - Component Area Option (2 of 6 hours)

The remaining four hours for Core 90 (three if MATH 2412 or 2413 is taken for Core 20) may be satisfied by any additional courses from the full list of options for Core 90.

Bachelor of Arts/Science Requirements (6-12 hours)


B.A. Degree

In addition to the core curriculum, a minimum of 12 hours as follows:

  • At least six semester hours of foreign language, and
  • Six hours chosen from art, communication studies, dance, English, history, media communications, modern languages, music, philosophy, religion, and theatre.

B.S. Degree

In addition to the core curriculum, a minimum of 6 hours as follows:

  • Six hours chosen from biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, geosciences, mathematics, physics, and natural sciences.

Electives: Take additional hours by advisement to total 120 hours overall


Human Performance Track


(Major Code: 150)

This track prepares the major for employment opportunities in a wide variety of sport fields, physical activity and wellness settings in the community, corporate, health-related, and therapeutic domains. Additionally, this track, through appropriate use of electives, provides for the preparation for an alternative format for teacher certification.

Major-Specific University Core Requirements


Core 30 - Life and Physical Sciences (6 hours)

Lab hours will count toward Component Area Option (Core 90).

Core 90 - Component Area Option (2 of 6 hours)

The remaining four hours for Core 90 may be satisfied by any additional courses from the full list of options for Core 90.

Human Performance Requirements (48 hours)


Bachelor of Arts/Science Requirements (6-12 hours)


B.A. Degree

In addition to the core curriculum, a minimum of 12 hours as follows:

  • At least six semester hours of foreign language, and
  • Six hours chosen from art, communication studies, dance, English, history, media communications, modern languages, music, philosophy, religion, and theatre.

B.S. Degree

In addition to the core curriculum, a minimum of 6 hours as follows:

  • Six hours chosen from biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, geosciences, mathematics, physics, and natural sciences.

Electives: Take additional hours as needed to total 120 hours overall


Total hours required to complete degree: 120 hours


A student must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours to include at least 36 advanced hours.

Notes:


  • All undergraduate SES majors must achieve a grade of “C” or better in all courses with an SES or ATTR prefix; failure to do so will require the student to retake the course.
