Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and Humanities


(Major Code: 010)

The Associate Degree provides students a unique opportunity to automatically receive an Embedded Academic Associate Degree during the process of pursuing their bachelor’s degree. Students in the Embedded Academic Associate Degree will automatically earn an Associate Degree in the specific discipline that corresponds to their baccalaureate degree.

 

Students must complete the following requirements to be eligible for an Embedded Academic Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and Humanities degree. For additional requirements and information, see also the “Requirements for Associate Degrees ” section of this catalog.

University Core Curriculum Requirements (42 hours)


 

**IMPORTANT: Before selecting from these courses, students should review any major-specific core requirements in the major below as they will be required to take those courses instead.**

 

Core 10 - Communication (3 hours from ENGL options)

Core 10 - Communication (3 hours from COMM options)

Core 20 - Mathematics (3 hours)

Core 30 - Life and Physical Sciences (6 hours)

Core 40 - Language, Philosophy and Culture (3 hours)

Core 50 - Creative Arts (3 hours)

Core 60 - American History (6 hours)

Core 70 - Government / Political Science (6 hours)

Core 80 - Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 hours)

Core 90 - Component Area Option (6 hours or fewer; may depend on major requirements)

Notes pertaining to University Core Curriculum Requirements:


  • For core areas above, equivalent transfer course work may be applied.
  • Courses should be applicable to the baccalaureate degree being pursued.
  • Non-exempt students must meet the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements, a legislatively mandated program designed to ensure that all students enrolled in public colleges and universities possess the academic skills needed to be successful in college-level course work.

Liberal Arts and Humanities (A.A.) Major Requirements (18 hours)


Complete the remaining 18 semester credit hours, outside of the University Core requirements, as directed by the baccalaureate degree from the following:

  • any COMM, ENGL, FREN, GERM, HIST, HUMA, JAPN, LANG, MCOM, SGNL, or SPAN courses

Note: Courses should be applicable to the baccalaureate degree being pursued. Students should review their baccalaureate degree plan and work with their assigned adviser each semester to ensure correct courses are taken.

Total hours required to complete degree: 60 hours


Completion of a minimum of sixty (60) semester credit hours of coursework. Within the sixty (60) semester credit hours, at least thirty (30) semester credit hours must be taken in-residence at WTAMU.
