Major in Hospitality and Tourism Management


(Major Code: 312)

The program will provide a broad theoretical and applied background in the managerial disciplines required to effectively manage the process, resources, and people involved in the sales, service, and staffing related to the hospitality and tourism industry. Building on foundational courses within the College of Business curriculum, this program prepares learners aspiring to work as middle- to top-level managers within business and government organizations, either locally or globally. Leveraging emerging research in the area, students explore a comprehensive set of approaches to managing hospitality organizations strategically and sustainably. This unique degree provides a competitive advantage for leaders looking to develop the skills needed in the hospitality and tourism industry. And as an individual discipline that integrates economics, management, marketing, and technology, the program is intended to strengthen participants with tools to practice in real-life business practices.

University Core Curriculum Requirements (42 hours)

Core 30 - Life and Physical Sciences (6 hours)

Core 40 - Language, Philosophy and Culture (3 hours)

Core 50 - Creative Arts (3 hours)

Core 60 - American History (6 hours)

Core 70 - Government / Political Science (6 hours)

Core 80 - Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 hours)

Core 90 - Component Area Option (6 hours or fewer; may depend on major requirements)

Major-Specific University Core Requirements


**IMPORTANT: The following courses are required for their specific Core areas instead of the courses listed above in the general University Core Curriculum.**

A grade of “C” or better is required in all University Core Curriculum sections 10, 20, 80, and three of six hours in section 90.

Core 80 - Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 hours)


Core 90 - Component Area Option (3 of 6 hours)

Hospitality and Tourism Management Major Requirements (30 hours)


Bachelor of Science Requirements (6-7 hours)


In addition to the core curriculum, a minimum of six hours as follows:

Additional electives to total 120 hours (21 hours)


Total hours required to complete degree: 120 hours


Depending on transfer credits and other substitutions/waivers, student may need to take additional electives as needed to total a minimum of 120 hours or the minimum total hours required for this degree, of which at least 36 must be advanced (3000/4000 level) and earned at WTAMU.
