Major in Theatre

A grade of “C” or better and a 2.75 overall GPA (WT and transfer) is required.

Theatre Program Requirements

Through the Theatre Production course (THRE PROD ), each theatre education major will perform satisfactorily in at least one role or technical crew position (including design, management and production running crews) for one show per semester, with the exception of the final student teaching semester. Academic eligibility factors into casting and production assignments; therefore, theatre education majors should maintain a semester GPA of 2.75 or higher, keep regular attendance in all classes, and make a “C” or better in all courses required by the major.
All theatre education majors will audition for all WTAMU Theatre productions unless excused from audition by the director of the production.
All theatre majors will attend the required jury evaluation.
- New theatre education majors will have a jury at the end of their first semester in the program.
- All theatre education majors will have a jury at the end of each spring semester.

NOTE: To prepare for the diverse responsibilities of teaching and directing, Theatre Education majors are encouraged to work with their advisor and the Technical Director to receive a variety of production assignments including possible opportunities in stage management, running crew, and front of house.

Theatre Major Requirements

Major-Specific University Core Requirements

This program requires no specific courses from the University Core Curriculum.

Theatre Course Requirements (51 hours)

A grade of “C” or better and a 2.75 GPA is required in Major Requirements.

Education Course Requirements (27 hours)

A grade of “C” or better and a 2.75 GPA is required in Education Requirements.

Bachelor of Arts Requirements (6 hours)

In addition to the core curriculum, a minimum of 6 hours as follows:

At least six hours of foreign language.

Total hours required to complete degree: 126 hours

Depending on transfer credits and other substitutions/waivers, student may need to take additional electives as needed to total a minimum of 126 hours or the minimum total hours required for this degree, of which at least 36 must be advanced (3000/4000 level) and earned at WTAMU.
