Major in Health Sciences


(Major Code: 730)

The curriculum for the B.A./B.S. degree in Health Sciences is centered on courses in the natural sciences, health sciences, and clinical sciences as well as elective courses in social sciences and exercise sciences.

Major-Specific University Core Requirements


This program requires no specific courses from the University Core Curriculum.

Pre-Healthcare Professional Option - Select from the following Prescribed Electives (24 hours)


Bachelor of Arts/Science Requirements (6-9 hours)


B.A. Degree

In addition to the core curriculum, a minimum of 9 hours as follows:

  • At least six semester hours of foreign language, and
  • Three hours chosen from art, communication studies, dance, English, history, media communications, modern languages, music, philosophy, religion, and theatre. (PHIL 3375  from the Health Science Core satisfies another three hours for the B.A. requirement.)

B.S. Degree

In addition to the core curriculum, a minimum of 6 hours as follows:

  • Six hours chosen from biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, geosciences, mathematics, physics, and natural sciences

Professional School Prerequisites and General Electives (up to 24 hours by advisement)

Health Sciences at RELLIS Academic Alliance Option (B.S. only)

Health Sciences at RELLIS Option - Required Courses (18 hours)


Health Sciences at RELLIS Option Required Courses are offered face-to-face at the RELLIS campus. Any changes must be approved by the director of the Health Sciences program at RELLIS.

Bachelor of Science Requirements (6 hours)


In addition to the core curriculum, a minimum of 6 hours as follows:

  • Six hours chosen from biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, geosciences, mathematics, physics, and natural sciences

General Electives (up to 30 hours by advisement)


Students must complete up to 30 credit hours of General Electives. These courses must not be counted as courses that fulfill the University Curriculum Core, Health Sciences Core, Health Sciences RELLIS Required Courses, or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) requirements. To meet residency requirements, students may be advised to take advanced work (3000- or 4000-level courses) from WTAMU.

Total hours required to complete degree: 120 hours


A student must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours to include at least 36 advanced hours.

Note: A student majoring in Health Sciences may complete a maximum of 24 credit hours in courses offered through the College of Business.
