University Core Curriculum Requirements


Refer to the “University Core Curriculum ” section of this catalog.

Note:


Music majors cannot receive core credit for MUSI 1306 . MUSI 1208  and MUSI 1209  satisfies “Visual and Performing Arts” in the core curriculum.

Required Music Courses for Emphases


Instrumental Emphasis


MUAP 10XX (two credit hours for each of four semesters)

MUAP 30XX (three credit hours for each of four semesters)

Six one-hour enrollments in piano with a grade of “C” or better from:

Six semester hours band/orchestra

Nine semester hours music electives (one hour advanced)

Applied minor instrument MUAP 10XX (one credit hour for each of four semesters)

Applied minor instrument MUAP 30XX (one credit hour for each of two semesters)

Six semester hours major ensemble

Nine semester hours of music electives (three hours advanced)

Applied minor instrument MUAP 10XX (one credit hour for each of four semesters)

Applied minor instrument MUAP 30XX (one credit hour for each of two semesters)

Six semester hours major ensemble

Eight semester hours of music electives

Organ Option

After four semesters of secondary instruction at the 1000 level, students in the degree programs bachelor of music (B.M.) in piano performance and B.M. in piano performance with emphasis in piano pedagogy will have the option of registering for two semesters of organ at the 1000 level.

Other Requirements


  • A minimum of eight semesters of major ensemble.
  • Recital, concert, weekly seminar and departmental meeting attendance.
  • Satisfactory senior recital performance before graduation.
  • Four non-MUAP/MUSI/MUEN hours are needed.
