Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) M.S.N.

This program will allow B.S.N. nurses to specialize in mental health without having to first obtain both a Graduate degree in Nursing and Certification in Family.
The primary aim of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at WTAMU is to prepare nurses for specialized mental health care in all areas and to improve access for all. Upon completion of the prescribed course of study, the student’s transcript indicates that he/she has completed the education preparation as regulated by the Texas Board of Nursing. The student is then eligible to take the advanced practice PMHNP certification exam.

Admission Requirements
In addition to University requirements for admission, the applicant must have:
- A minimum of a B.S.N. degree from a CCNE- or NLN-accredited school of nursing and RN licensure in good standing in the state in which practicums will be completed.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA with no grade below “C” for the last 60 hours taken.
- WTAMU Graduate School acceptance.
- Completion of a basic statistics course with a grade of “C” or higher.
- Current CPR certification.
- Current immunizations, including Hepatitis B.
- Formal application to the Graduate Nursing Program (application fee required).

PMHNP Requirements
Each student will:
- Complete an approved curriculum of at least 47 semester hours with at least a “B” in every course.
- Successfully complete the required PMHNP portfolio.
- Comply with any additional Department of Nursing and general University requirements for the master of science degree.
- Note: Students must enroll in NURS 6553 during their last long semester. Students will complete required portfolio items during the didactic and clinical courses for students in the PMHNP. The portfolio provides evidence of personal accomplishments, tangible demonstration of skills, and evidence of program learning outcomes established for the M.S.N. PMHNP program. Students will assemble the portfolio during courses to demonstrate competencies in the program learning outcomes and will submit the completed portfolio during NURS 6553 .
