Concentration in Composition
(Major Code: 221) Requirements for All Music Majors
Refer to the “School of Music ” section of this catalog. From Creative Arts - Code 50 (3 hours)
Note: Music majors cannot receive core credit for MUSI 1306 or MUSI 1310 . Requirements for Concentration in Composition
MUAP 10XX (two credit hours for each of four semesters) in performance medium
MUAP 30XX (two credit hours for each of two semesters) in performance medium
Six one-hour enrollments in piano with a grade of “C” or higher from:
Six semester hours of major ensemble. A minimum of three semesters of lower-division, and the remaining semesters must be upper-division.
Other Requirements
- A minimum of eight semester of major ensemble are required; enrollment in major ensemble is required in every semester for which the student is enrolled in 9 or more hours.
- Recital, concert, weekly seminar and departmental meeting attendance.
- Capstone recital project before graduation: This recital will feature the student’s composition portfolio performed by the composer and/or other soloists or ensembles.
- Effective non-music hours to meet minimum requirement of 40 hours outside major.
