International Studies-Latin America Minor


(Minor Code: M821)

International studies is an interdisciplinary minor administered and advised through the Department of History. This program encourages students to globalize their intellectual and professional goals by exploring the cultures, languages, histories, landscapes, economies and political systems of specific world regions. International studies minors equip themselves for a variety of careers, from public policy to national security, from finance to arts management.

International Studies-Latin America Minor Requirements:


  • 18 hours, nine of which must be at the advanced level, three in residence.
  • Two semesters of Spanish, Portuguese or a relevant indigenous language, or demonstrated competency in a regional language.
  • 12 hours of area-related course work, six from any field, three of which may come from the “general” list including study-abroad embedded courses.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to study abroad.
