Engineering

Civil Engineering
The program is designed to provide the breadth and depth of knowledge required of civil engineers. Coursework addresses six subareas of the civil engineering discipline: structural, transportation, geotechnical, water resources, environmental, and construction. Civil engineers conceive, design, build, supervise, operate, construct, and maintain infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector, including roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, and systems for water supply and wastewater treatment. The civil engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.
Electrical Engineering
Electrical engineering students at West Texas A&M have the benefit of a program which will prepare them for a wide range of career opportunities. The course of study includes introductory classes in math, physics and chemistry. Students will be able to specialize in circuit design, electrical machines design, controls systems, power electronics and power systems.

- To meet the expectations of employers of electrical engineers, especially in the field of power systems, and
- Pursue advanced study if they so desire.
Engineering Technology
The engineering technology curriculum combines an emphasis on understanding engineering and technical fundamentals with real-life applications in renewable energy and manufacturing industries.
Two options are available within the Engineering Technology Degree Program.
- The first option prepares the students for careers in renewable energy technology and manufacturing industries.
- The second option contains much of the same technical background but adds emphasis in management and marketing, thus preparing students for careers in industrial management and sales.
Engineering technology majors can participate in a Cooperative Education Program that combines classroom study with a planned program of related work experience with industry or government agencies in the Texas Panhandle area. Students also may participate in industrial internships arranged through the Engineering Technology Internship Program.
A series of courses emphasizing renewable energy has been implemented into the Engineering Technology Program. This program allows interested students to pursue education related to a career in renewable energy.
Environmental Engineering
Environmental engineers will be needed to help companies comply with environmental regulations and to develop methods of cleaning up environmental hazards. There has been a shift in emphasis toward preventing problems rather controlling those which already exist, as well as increasing public health concerns resulting from populations growth, also are expected to spur demand for environmental engineers. Because of this employment growth, job opportunities in Environmental Engineering should be favorable.
Environmental engineers use the principles of engineering, soil science, biology, and chemistry to develop solutions to environmental problems. They are involved in efforts to improve recycling, waste disposal, public health, and control of water and air pollution.
Mechanical Engineering
The Mechanical Engineering Program prepares students for careers involving design and development of thermal, fluid and mechanical systems. This curriculum provides the mathematics, science, engineering and design background as necessary preparation for the practice of engineering. The program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.
Computer Science

The computer science curriculum is designed to provide the student with significant exposure to theory, abstraction and design components of the field of computer science.

The undergraduate Mathematics program at West Texas A&M University offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with Secondary Teaching Certification. The Mathematics program at West Texas A&M University is committed to the intellectual, professional, and social growth of students by providing an education grounded in diverse theoretical and applied mathematics problem solving strategies, critical thinking, multidisciplinary teamwork, and building effective communication skills while serving the changing needs of education and industry throughout the state and nation through life-long learning and personal growth.
