Sports and Exercise Sciences M.S.


Major in Sports and Exercise Sciences


(Major Code: 5449) (36-Hour Program)

This degree is designed for persons in various fields of exercise and sport sciences who wish to concentrate their graduate work in exercise science or sport management. Students with undergraduate degrees in a field other than sports and exercise science or a related field may be required to complete leveling courses chosen and approved by the adviser and department head.

General Requirements


Graduate Program Admittance Criteria


Admit:

GPA of 3.0 or better in undergraduate degree and scoring at the 25th percentile or better in both the verbal and analytical writing sections of the GRE.

 

Alternative Admit:

GPA of 2.75 to 2.99 in undergraduate degree program showing progressive improvement in GPA from junior year on with subjective assessment of upper division coursework and coursework in the major, and scoring at the 30th percentile or better in both sections of the GRE.

 

Reviewed Admit:

Same as alternative admit but allowing for a weakness in one of the two areas of the GRE such that there would be at least the 30th percentile in one section and no less than the 21st percentile in the other. As the name of the category implies, this student would require a graduate faculty review before being admitted to the program.

 

Admission process:

For admittance to the program, the student must provide the following to the coordinator of the graduate program:

  • GRE scores
  • Transcript (copy is permissible) of all undergraduate coursework
  • Letter of introduction addressing interest in the program, academic and professional goals while in the program, and identifying the program focus.

Interdisciplinary Studies (5143)

Students in this major must meet the criteria delineated above.

Exercise Science Emphasis (Thesis/Non-Thesis Option)


Comprehensive Examination and Oral Presentation

Students will be required to pass a written comprehensive examination and give oral presentation of professional project or exercise science related internship.

Sport Management Emphasis (Thesis/Non-Thesis Option)


Students also will be required to pass a written comprehensive examination and give an oral presentation of the internship

Note:


All graduate SES majors, to include interdisciplinary studies majors who have selected SES as one of their options, must achieve a grade of “B” or better in all courses with an SES prefix. Failure to do so requires a retake of the course.
