Panhandle Alternative Certification for Educators/Master of Arts in Teaching (PACE/MAT)

The Panhandle Alternative Certification for Educators/Master of Arts in Teaching (PACE/MAT) program is a university-based teacher certification program for individuals who have previously earned a bachelor’s degree and want to make a career transition into the teaching profession. The program, which ultimately culminates in Texas educator certification and an advanced degree, begins with an intensive summer of online, graduate course work after which an eligible candidate can be employed as a teacher in a Texas school district.
PACE offers certification in the following areas:
- Elementary: EC-6 Generalist and Bilingual Generalist
- Middle School: 4-8 Generalist, or English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.
- Secondary: 6-12, 7-12, or 8-12 Content Areas.
- All-Level: EC-12 content areas or EC-12 Special Education.
Although interested individuals may submit transcripts for evaluation at any time during the year, updated information/application packets are available December 1 each year. The priority application period is January 1 - March 1 each year; however, the application period is open through April 1, and applications will be considered at any time at the request of a potential hiring district.
