WTAMU provides a pre-optometry specialization for students interested in pursuing application to Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) schools. Pre-optometry is not a degree. Most students who wish to pursue optometry school will complete a B.S. in Biology or Biochemistry. This includes a mixture of biology, chemistry, math, physics, and non-science courses, which together fulfill the prerequisites of Texas optometry schools and prepare applicants to take the Optometry Admissions Test (OAT). Pre-professional requirements vary between optometry schools. Students considering this field should consult with the pre-optometry adviser for information regarding various schools and their particular requirements.
