A Certificate in Companion Animal Studies is an undergraduate interdisciplinary studies certificate designed to provide students with science-based knowledge of and experience with companion animals. Students will complete the program with a better understanding of companion animal care and management, behavior and physiology, and their contributions to the animal/human community.

Required Courses (15-18 hours)

BIOL 3347 - Principles of Nutrition 3
BIOL 3092 - Special Topics 1-6 (e.g., Animal Shelter Management, Human-Animal Connection, etc.)
AGRI 3301 - Genetics 3 (or cross-listed BIOL 3301 )
BIOL 3311 - Arthropods and Public Health 3
BIOL 3331 - Parasitology 3
BIOL 3522 - Comparative Anatomy (HAZ) 5
ANSC 4331 - Animal Health 3 (or cross-listed BIOL 4331)
BIOL 4335 - Animal Behavior 3
ANSC 4098 - Animal Science Internship 1-6 or
BIOL 4098 - Internship in Wildlife/Fisheries 1-6 or
BIOL 4099 - Internship in Health Care 1-6

Notes:

Internship experience with emphasis in companion animals, specifically at a small animal veterinary clinic, animal shelter, boarding or training facility, breeding operation, animal-assisted therapy program, pet food and supply stores.

Other courses may be approved by Director of Companion Animal Studies.
