Major in Studio Art


(Major Code: 207)

 

Studio art majors may choose their major and minor from the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, ceramics, and digital art.

All studio majors are required to have a one- or two-person, one-week show featuring work from their ARTS 4394 senior project. The student will be responsible for design and mounting of the show, arrangements for publicity through the University’s Office of Communication and Marketing Services and The Prairie student publication, and handling invitations. An opening reception is optional. Each student will undergo a critique of the show by a committee of three or more faculty (the student’s faculty adviser and at least two additional faculty members from the department).

Major Studio Area Requirements (18 hours)


  • Take 12 hours in the major studio area (6 hours must be advanced in order to complete the required 36 advanced hours at WT).

Minor Studio Area or Graphic Design Requirements (9 hours)


  • Take 9 hours in a minor studio area (3 hours must be advanced in order to complete the required 36 hours at WT).
    OR
  • Take 9 hours of graphic design courses (3 hours must be advanced in order to complete the required 36 advanced hours at WT).

Professional Practices (3 hours)
