University Core Curriculum Requirements


Refer to the “University Core Curriculum ” section of this catalog.

Social Sciences Requirements:


A student electing this major must complete the following 57-hour program from among anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, psychology and sociology.

18 semester hours in each of two social sciences


 

Nine semester hours in each of two additional social sciences


 

Portfolio:


All students majoring in social sciences must complete a portfolio consisting of essays and research papers written for the various disciplines of the program as well as a reflective essay. The portfolio of work is due to the Social Sciences program director before the completion of the final semester of study. A student must submit a portfolio to be cleared to graduate.

Note:


No one-semester-hour courses may be counted toward the above requirements. Students following this program shall have as their major adviser the head of the department in which they elect to meet one of the 18-semester-hour requirements noted above.

B.A. or B.S. Requirements (6-12 hours)


Electives


Take additional electives to total 36 hours of advanced work (3000- or 4000-level courses) from WTAMU and 120 hours overall.

Teacher Certification


The Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice offers secondary teacher certification majors in social sciences.
