Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certificate
(Major Code: 5729)
A 26-hour plan of graduate study leading to completion of a post-graduate certificate program that will increase the number of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners and will lay the foundation for Nursing Board licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
The primary aim of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner role specialization option at WTAMU is to prepare nurses for specialized mental health care in all areas and to improve access for all. The post-master’s program is designed as a certificate course of study that enables a practicing nurse who holds a Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) degree to prepare for credentialing as a PMHNP. Upon completion of the prescribed course of study, the student’s transcript indicates that he/she has completed the education preparation as regulated by the Texas Board of Nursing. The student is then eligible to take the advanced practice PMHNP certification exam.
