General Requirements
Graduate School
Students are reviewed for full admission when the applicant has an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher and has submitted all required application materials as noted below. In the event that the preceeding isn’t met or there are other circumstances, the admittance process will be applied on a case-by-case basis. These circumstances could include, but are not limited by the following:
- Conditional Admission: Students are reviewed for conditional admission when they do qualify for full admission (e.g., in final semester of undergraduate degree program and currently holds GPA of 3.00 or higher), or
- Provisional Admission (non-degree seeking): Students are reviewed for provisional admission as a non-degree seeking student when they are requesting to complete 3 to 6 hours of graduate coursework to meet a specific goal (e.g., attaining 18 graduate hours in a field in order to teach at a community college or university level or to complete the credentials needed to be able to provide dual credit courses for high school students).
Students who fall outside of the conditions outlined above may be presented to the associate dean of the Office of Graduate Business Programs in the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business for assistance on future admission possiblities based on special circumstances consistent with House Bill 1641.
Full Admission Requirements
Admission to the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business graduate programs is highly selective. Meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the degree program.
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Undergraduate grade point average (GPA of 3.00 or higher)
- While all applicants are welcome to take the GMAT exam, those with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher may request to have this requirement waived by completing a GMAT Score Waiver Request Form and emailing it to COBGrad@wtamu.edu. Alternately, applicants may submit an Electronic GMAT Score Waiver Request Form.
- Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions.
- Three letters of recommendation are required. At least one letter must be from a professional colleague. The Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business Recommendation Letter Form is available for downloading.
- Resume showing career progress.
- Statement of goals for pursuing a graduate business degree.
- Proficiency on foundation business courses.
M.B.A. Requirements (31-49 graduate hours)
M.B.A. Foundation Courses (0 to 18 graduate hours)
We review the academic background of each applicant to determine whether they will need to complete foundation courses. The three areas in which applicants are most likely to need foundation courses are Financial Accounting, Statistics, and Corporate Finance, but might also include Economics, Management, Marketing, or Business Law.
- Applicants with an undergraduate degree in business administration may or may not be required to take foundation courses.
- Applicants with an undergraduate degree outside of business administration or an undergraduate degree in business administration may be required to take up to 9 semester hours from the following: ACCT 6300 , ECON 6300 , CIDM 6300 , MGT 6300 , MKT 6300 , FIN 6300 , and BUSI 6300 . This determination is made by the associate dean. In addition, the associate dean may select more than 9 semester hours of foundation courses in special cases where student academic background in business administration, grade point average or work experience are limited.
M.B.A. Core Requirements (28 graduate hours)

- MBA–General Business–three semester hours of graduate business electives.*
- MBA–Computer Information Systems (CIS)–nine semester hours of CIDM courses, which must include six hours from:
To join the MBA program with an emphasis in CIS, an applicant needs an undergraduate degree in CIS, MIS, CS or a technology related area of concentration or at least two years of work experience in the technology field.
- MBA–Management–nine semester hours of management courses.
- MBA–Marketing–nine semester hours of marketing courses.
- MBA–Healthcare Management Emphasis–nine graduate hours from:
To join the MBA program with an emphasis in healthcare, an applicant needs at least two years of work experience in the healthcare field or a closely related equivalent.
* An elective course may be any graduate-level course in the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business (except 6300 leveling courses) or, with approval from the associate dean of graduate business program, elective graduate courses may be taken outside of the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business.
Leveling courses ACCT 6300 , ECON 6300 , FIN 6300 , CIDM 6300 , BUSI 6300 , MGT 6300 , and MKT 6300 are not elective courses and can only be used to meet leveling requirements as part of degree completion.
