Major in Studio Art


(Major Code: 207)

 

Studio art majors may choose their major and minor from the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, ceramics, glass and computer art.

All studio majors are required to have a one- or two-person, one-week show featuring work from their ARTS 4394 project. The student will be responsible for design and mounting of the show, arrangements for publicity through the University’s Office of Communication and Marketing Services and The Prairie student publication, and handling invitations. An opening reception is optional. Each student will undergo a critique of the show by a committee of three or more persons (the student’s faculty adviser and at least two additional faculty members from the department).

NOTE: Major studio area requirements of 18 hours: 15 hours are advised to be taken at the advanced-level in order to complete the required 39 advanced hours at WT without having to take more than 120 hours overall. Minor studio area or graphic design requirements: 6 hours are advised to be taken at the advanced level in order to complete the required 39 advanced hours at WT without having to take more than 120 hours overall.

Major Studio Area Requirements


  • Take 12 hours in the major studio area. (Taking at least nine hours at the advanced level is advised in order to complete the required 39 advanced hours at WT without having to take more than 120 hours overall.)
  • ARTS 4394 BFA Senior Project  3,3 (Course may be repeated for credit as topic changes.)

Minor Studio Area or Graphic Design Requirements


  • Take nine hours in the minor studio area OR
  • Take nine hours of graphic design courses.

Taking at least six of these hours at the advanced level is advised in order to the complete the required 39 advanced hours at WT.

Upper-Level Art History (12 hours)


Professional Practices (3 hours)


Art Electives (3 hours)


  • Take three hours of ARTS electives by advisement.
