Educational Diagnostician M.Ed.


Major in Educational Diagnostician (36 SCH)

Admission Requirements


A candidate must:

  • Complete a formal application and mandatory interview;
  • Meet University Graduate School admission requirements;
  • Have a 2.75 undergraduate grade point average;
  • Hold a valid teaching certificate; and
  • Secure an educational diagnostician mentor prior to enrolling in assessment courses.

Leveling Courses


The following 9 hours of leveling courses are required for students who do not have an undergraduate special education background or whose special education course work (with a minimum of 3.0 GPA) was not taken within 6 years of admission to the diagnostician program:

All assessment courses (i.e.,

  and   and   and  ) must be taken at West Texas A&M University; assessment course work from other universities will not be accepted. Experience in the field of Special Education will not be considered in lieu of course work.

Note:


Candidates seeking the M.Ed. with or without certification as well as those seeking certification only are required to pass a comprehensive exam during the last semester of course work. Also, two years of teaching experience as a classroom teacher and successful completion of the educational diagnostician certification exam are also required for certification.

Program Fee: A candidate who is hired by a school district and requests recommendation for internship on a probationary certificate will be assessed an annual fee of $300 plus mileage (i.e., the total miles a supervisor must travel to supervise interns) to offset the expense of supervision required by the Texas Administrative Code.
