Agriculture M.S.

Majors in Agriculture


Students seeking the M.S. degree in agriculture will select one of the following areas of concentration:

  • Agriculture (Major Code: 5513)
    • emphasis in Agricultural Business and Economics
    • emphasis in Agriculture Education
    • emphasis in Agriculture Media and Communication
  • Animal Science (Major Code: 5503)
  • Plant, Soil and Environmental Science (Major Code: 5526)

Admission Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in an agricultural discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Major professor agreeing to supervise coursework and/or thesis research project(s).
  • Students with a bachelor’s degree in a discipline outside of agriculture will be expected to do leveling work in the proposed major discipline either before or after admission to the M.S. degree program.
  • Domestic students
    • Official transepts from all colleges and universities attended.
  • International students
    • Official transcripts, mark sheets, graduation certificates, etc. (with certified English translations) from all colleges and universities attended.
    • Minimum TOEFL (79 iBT) or IELTS (6.0) score.
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or 3.0 GPA on last 60 hours.
  • Completion of Department of Agricultural Sciences “Application for Graduate Studies” including three reference forms.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA for graduate research assistantships.

NOTES:

  • The Department does not require the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
  • Decisions about whether the student is eligible for a graduate research assistantship are not made until all documentation has been evaluated by the Department of Agricultural Sciences.
  • After all documentation has been evaluated, the application packet will be forwarded to the appropriate faculty for review.
  • Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission into one of the graduate programs in Agricultural Sciences.

 

Thesis Option (30 credit hours)


  • At least 18 hours credit from 6000-level and above courses.
  • At least 18 hours credit in courses offered in the Department of Agricultural Sciences.
  • At least one hour credit in graduate seminar (up to three hours credit can be used toward degree requirements).
  • AGRI 6316  and AGRI 7318  or other courses with approval.
  • Six hours credit of thesis (AGRI 6301  and AGRI 6302 ).
  • No more than four hours credit from individual study courses.
  • Successful completion of thesis and comprehensive exam.

Non-Thesis Option (36 credit hours)


  • At least 18 hours credit from 6000-level and above courses.
  • At least 18 hours credit in courses offered in the Department of Agricultural Sciences.
  • One hour credit in graduate seminar.
  • AGRI 6316  or other courses with approval.
  • Six hours credit in a supplementary area (courses outside of the Department of Agricultural Sciences).
  • No more than six hours credit from individual study courses.
  • Successful completion of comprehensive exam.
