Major in Engineering Technology


(Major Code: 5112)

The College of Engineering offers the Master of Science degree in Engineering Technology. The degree program combines a variety of courses related to engineering technology and industrial management areas with a specialization in electrical engineering power system technology. The program prepares students for an exciting range of career opportunities - from production, quality assurance, industrial safety, research and development to supervisory and managerial positions in industry. Upon completion of the degree requirements, the student should be able to:

  • Acquire and utilize advanced knowledge and skills needed by technical, supervisory and management positions in industry.
  • Understand a systematic approach to plan, develop and manage integrated systems and projects.
  • Develop, conduct and document research, development and operational projects.
  • Participate in and function effectively as a member of interdisciplinary team.
  • Appreciate the need for continuous improvement and learning to acquire new knowledge and skills in their professions.

  • Plan I (Thesis)
  • Plan II (Non-Thesis)

Thesis Option (30 hours)


Thirty (30) semester hours of approved courses which must include six semester hours in ET 6301  and ET 6302  (Thesis), plus 15 hours in electrical engineering at the 6000-level, and nine hours in engineering technology at the 6000-level.

Non-Thesis Option (36 hours)


Thirty-six (36) semester hours of approved courses, which must include ET 6324 Design for Research and Development, 15 hours of 6000-level courses in electrical engineering, and at least 12 hours of 6000-level courses in engineering technology. Students may also enroll in up to six hours of adviser approved electives within the 36-hour degree program.
