Art Core Requirements (studio art and graphic design)


Intermediate


Studio Art


18 semester hours in major studio area, including six semester hours of:

Twelve semester hours of upper-level art history from the following, including at least one ARTS 4370 and one ARTS 4371:

Three semester hours of art electives

Graphic Design


An additional six hours are taken in the Intermediate Core for a total of 21 hours in graphic design

Six hours B.F.A. Senior Project:

Twelve hours of upper-level art history from the following, including at least one ARTS 4370 and one ARTS 4371:

Requirements


Studio art majors may choose their major and minor from the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, ceramics, glass and computer art.

All studio majors are required to have a one- or two-person, one-week show featuring work from their ARTS 4394  project. The student will be responsible for design and mounting of the show, arrangements for publicity through the University’s Office of Communication and Marketing Services and The Prairie student publication, and handling invitations. An opening reception is optional. Each student will undergo a critique of the show by a committee of three or more persons (the student’s faculty adviser and at least two additional faculty members from the department).

NOTE: Major studio area requirements of 18 hours: 15 hours are advised to be taken at the advanced-level in order to complete the required 39 advanced hours at WT without having to take more than 120 hours overall. Minor studio area or graphic design requirements: 6 hours are advised to be taken at the advanced level in order to complete the required 39 advanced hours at WT without having to take more than 120 hours overall.

Each graphic design major is required to have a portfolio review and may, with departmental approval, mount an exhibition (one or more persons) if the student desires. The review committee will consist of the student’s major adviser and at least one departmental faculty member chosen by the student. If the student chooses to exhibit, the same guidelines will be followed as for studio major exhibits For information about the master of arts (M.A.)/master of fine arts (M.F.A.) degree, refer to the “Graduate Catalog”.
